A slew of recent decisions has widened the difference between AGP and BJP The Asom Gana Parishad is unhappy with decisions to auction 12 oilfields in Assam. Same resentment brews within the regional party after the Sonowal Government hiked VAT against 127 items.
Talking to reporters in Guwahati AGP leader and former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta said that the coalition partner was never asked before the move to auction 12 marginal oilfields. “We oppose it. During the Devegowda Government we oppose it,” said Mahanta. He said, “They (BJP) should have talked to us before arriving at a such conclusion.”
Mahanta further had some reservation on the VAT hike decision. “We were not asked. Had there been a slew of common programme it would not have happened. A set of minimum programme is needed between AGP and BJP,” said Mahanta.
Mahanta’s statement assumes significance amid the statewide howls of protest over the move to auction 12 oilfields and to hike the VAT against 127 item where the common people would have to bear the brunt.
