In a move that fetches joy for Assam and its people, a top ranked ONGC officer from Assam will head the Oil India Limited.
He is none other than Utpal Borah who is all set to sit in the helm of affairs of the oil public sector unit.
Borah, now Executive Director (Asset Manager) ONGC, who has been finalized for the post of OIL chairman cum managing director is expected to join within this month.
OIL has been running functioning without a full-time CMD since July 1 last year.
Public sector top management personnel recruiter Public Enterprises Selection Board last year conducted two interviews to select its head where Rupshikha Saikia Borah was selected. But the Prime Minister’s Office rejected the selection. The MoPNG search committee shortlisted 15 candidates for the interview. These 15 include three Baruah and Anil Kumar Jain, Pramod Kumar Sharma, Rahul Dasgupta, Utpal Borah, PK Rao, Dr Ashutosh Karnataka, Saumendra Kumar Baruah, Dr Sunil Y Bharati and Bedanta Sarmah, Robin Deka, SB Buragohain.
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi rolls up his sleeves to reshuffle his council of minister in day or two. Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi has finalised the date during his meeting with Governor JB Patnaik on Wednesday afternoon. Gogoi is likely to give ministerial berth to Sarat Borkataky, Dr Bhumidhar Barman, Bidya Sing Engleng, Sukur Ali Ahmed, Bhupen Kumar Borah, Abdul Muhib Mazumdar and Girindra Mallik and Chandan Sarkar. According to CMO sources, Gogoi is contemplating to reshuffle the existing portfolios to make the exercise more balance. He has already to the consent from the senior ministers and MLAs on Wednesday.
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday allocated additional portfolios temporarily to four ministers in his cabinet a day after he dropped two ministers. Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nazrul Islam will look in the health and family welfare. Pradyut Bordoloi will hold additional portfolio of education apart from power and industry. Agricultural Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka got two additional portfolios - irrigation and soil conservation. Minister of State for Excise, Sports and Youth Welfare Ajit Singh will hold cooperation as an additional portfolio.
A tea stall owner was killed and three others sustained injury when suspected ULFA militants exploded a powerful blast in Goalpara district on Wednesday. The explosion took place at around 8 in the morning at a stone's throw distance from the Krishnai police station where the person identified as Mujibur Rehman was killed on the spot. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is set to reshuffle his cabinet in a day or two. Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi is ready to seek an appointment with Governor JB Patnaik for his consent to reshuffle his cabinet. At least ten portfolios have been remaining idle after Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned and Siddique Ahmed and Ardhendu Dey were axed. Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s resignation has been accepted. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has suggested Governor JB Patnaik to accept the health and education minister’s resignation leter he submitted on Monday. Dr Sarma on Monday put in his papers saying that he was not physically and mentally prepared to work under Tarun Gogoi as chief minister. After the receipt of the letter, Gogoi sent the letter to the party high command seeking final seal of approval.
