Chirang observes Lachit Day
The Chirang district administration observed the Lachit Divas in a befitting manner in the auditorium hall of Kajalgaon High School. The programme was started with offering floral tribute to the portrait of Lachit Borphukan and lighting of lamp by Chirang Deputy Commissioner Binod Kumar Deka in presence of ADCs Dasarath Das, Diganta Baishya, SDO(S) Jayanta Sarkar, Sidli BDO Kumud Narzary and other dignitaries. ADC Dasarath Das spoke about the significance of the day and highlighted the important points connected with Lachit Borphukan as commander of Ahom Kingdom.
As such, attending as resource person Assistant professor of UN Brahma College Redian Narzary spoke on the life history of Bir Lachit Borphukan with reference to his courage, dedication, sacrifice and patriotism towards his mother land and its people along with moral lesson need to be learned from his struggling life by the younger generations
The entire programme was conducted by Inspector of Schools Jaypalsing Brahma where over three hundred students and teachers from various schools attended. An art competition on patriotic subject, Swachh Bharat Mission and environment among the students was also organised on the occasion.

An woman was killed by wild elephant at Doulguri Lungsung area under Bishmuri police outpost in Kokrajhar late last night. The victim was identified as Pili Kisku(19) wife of Bishnu Hasda of Doulguri Lungsung along Haltugaon forest division in Kokrajhar district. Bishnu told that an wild elephant reached their house by around 11 pm late last night and trampled to death his wife on the spot.Wild elephant some time visits at their village and attacked the villagers,he said. Security forces apprehended three over ground workers (OGW) of Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) from two different villages on Wednesday morning during search operation in Kokrajhar district. Based on an input about presence of the link men of the KLO, a joint team of police and Rajput regiment carried out search operation and apprehended three link men from different villages under Serfanguri and Kokrajhar PS in Kokrajhar district.
