Bodo singer Dwikhrong Khunggur Basumatary no more

Noted Bodo revolutionary singer and song composer Dwikhrong Khunggur Basumatary passses away suffereing from throat cancer at his Goybari village near Dotma in Kokrajhar district  on Saturday morning. All Bodo Students Union, different organisations, well wishers paid last respect to Dwikhrong at Bodofa House, Dularai Bodo Harimu Afad offices in Kokrajhar and rituals performed at Goybari village. Basumatary, popularly known as Bodo revolutionary singer among Bodo community during the Bodoland movement, which had met peak seeking Bodoland separate state in 1980s.

Basumatary was admitted to B Baruah Cancer hospital in Guwhati on October 21 last to take treatment where he got some relief from his disease having staying and brought back to home few days back. He was re-admitted to Dotma hospital yesterday night after met vomitting,loose motion and breathed his last by 6 am today.

Basumatary was born in April 14, 1963 at Gwjwn Pwthar of Sonitpur district and take to live at Goybari village near Dotma after marriage life in Kokrajhar district. Dwikhrong had a reputation of revolutionary singer and song composer during Bodoland movement seeking separate Bodoland homeland started from 1987 under bold leadership of Bodofa Upendra Nath Brahma,former ABSU president.He was 53.He left wife and relatives.He had sung numbers of Bodo audio cassets,which included Twisam,Simang,Udangshri,Laizam are prominent songs.

His body was brought to Bodofa House and Dularai Bodo Harimu Afad officer in Kokrajhar where ABSU leader,wellwisher,BTC MCLA Rwngwra Narzary,Bodo singers, paid floral last respect to Dwikhrong.Later,cremated at Goybari village after permormed last rituals.

Jayanta Basumatary,ABSU leader said Dwikhrong was a Bodo revolutionary singer among Bodo community.

‘We loss a great singer in our community with his dead’, Jayanta said.

Rwngwra Narzary, BTC MCLA expresses his deep sorrow over his dead,who had dedicated his whole life to the singing for Bodos in the region.

KOKRAJHAR:  In a innovative well in the Sapkata River in Kokrajhar district where water flows from bottom to top attracts visitors. The well is located at Dhwrwmpur village near Athiabari under Serfanguri Police Station, nearly 60 Kms away from Kokrajhar district headquarters to the north. Kokrajhar: A total 144 relief camps have been opened for 125,181 flood affected peoples in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts in BTAD region. Altogether 86,500 flood affected peoples are taking shelter at 120 relief camps across the Kokrajhar district which are severely affected in the flash floods. Kokrajhar: Former MP and academician Charan Narzary passed away on Tuesday morning at 4.30 am at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was admitted to the hospital few months back. He was 87. One person died in Kokrajhar district due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) at Lower Assam hospital, Bongaigaon on Friday afternoon. Kokrajhar district unit of Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) and Women Wing of BPF distributed relief materials among inmates at Shikarbill flood relief camp in Kokrajhar district today.
