It's tragedy with our politicians who try to turn their failures on the others, especially before the elections. Mud slinging is very common to divert the attention of the electorate. The recent visit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani to the states of Assam and Meghalaya has brought excitement for Assam chief minister, Tarun Gogoi, who has tried to put blame of failures to check illegal migrants influx on the six years rule of BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which ruled at the Centre from March 1998 to May 2004. Since the BJP and the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) are coming closer in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections early next year, the chief minister has also tried to allege ten years rule of AGP in Assam as 'quite failure'. He has said that the AGP failed to detect and deport the foreigners from the state during the ten years of its rule.
The allegations raised by the chief minister Gogoi have been taken by a number of conscious citizens as vague and 'politically motivated'. In their opinion the founders of AGP, the student leaders began agitation in the year 1979 on the issue of foreigners influx. The influx of illegal migrants began with the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. At the time the country was ruled by the Congress Party. Assam Accord was signed between the movement leaders and the state government ruled by the Congress, in presence of the erstwhile Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on 15th August 1985.
The AGP came to power in Assam at the end of 1985. Although it ruled over the state for one full term independently and another term with a gap of single term, as a coalition partner with the Left parties, it could not have enough experience in administration. Out of 29 years of rule from 1979 to 2008 the AGP rule in the state was only for 10 years, whereas the Congress ruled the state for 19 years. Why blame the AGP for ten years performance whereas the Congress rule for 19 years could not do much in solving the problems even after getting the patronage of the Central government.
Similarly, the chief minister has criticized the NDA rule of six years at the Centre, whereas since 1971 till now the Congress has ruled the country for 27 years and Tarun Gogoi has been the chief minister of Assam for the last eight years. Despite all these opportunities his government could not solve the problems of the state for which it has dared to blame AGP and the NDA.
It has been analyzed by the most of the citizens that the AGP and BJP are coming closer to each other and the chief minister has treated it as a danger bell for his government. The unity in the two parties may affect the Lok Sabha polls very badly. The Congress may not take it easy. It may try to create confusion to keep the opposition divided. Despite division in the opposition parties the efforts are continue to bring them closer to defeat the Congress rule in the state. The AGP has already solved differences among their various factions. Its alliance with NDA may also bring other minor parties closer to NDA before the next Lok Sabha polls. The state Congress is afraid of any adverse situation and at this stage tries to throw its failures on the others.
