Guwahati: One of Charlie Chaplin's most celebrated works, The Gold Rush will be screened at Guwahati Press Club on Friday (28 September, starting at 5 pm). Produced and directed by Charlie Chaplin, the 1925 comedy film stars Chaplin, Georgia Hale, Mack Swain, Tom Murray, Henry Bergman and Malcolm Waite. Written and Edited by Chaplin himself, the silent era movie has cinematography by Roland Totheroh and music by Chaplin, Carli Elinor, Max Terr and James L Fields.

Media interaction: Prior to the film screening, an interactive session with Kashmiri journalist Haris Qadeer (editor of Daily Mujadala) will be organized at 3 pm in the press club auditorium.

Himanta’s white lie!

Ayursundra doctor conducts GPC clinic

Dr Biswajit Deuri (gastro) from the city based Ayursundra Hospital conducted the weekly evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club (GPC) on Saturday (26 August). Nearly 20 participants joined the camp and received necessary consultations from the physician. Dipak Bania from the hospital assisted in conducting the clinic. The next camp, organized for the benefit of press club members along with their dependents, will be conducted by Hayat Hospital. The camp will start at 4 pm of 2 September 2017 and conclude by 6 pm. The participants will also get the opportunity to check their blood pressures in the Saturday clinic.

Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) wishes early recovery of two television journalists along with a print reporter, who are presently undergoing treatments in separate city based hospitals. Clean chit to business man in sensational case

A local session court in Guwahati exonerated a prominent business man from a sensational murder case 22 years back. In its final judgment on Tuesday, the court rejected the charge sheet filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation who indicted Bhagya Kalita of murdering Karabi  Das and her younger daughter Dubari. But the court took 22 years to exempt the businessman from this sensational case which took place at Chandmari in Guwahati in 1995.

GNRC doctor conducts GPC clinic

The city based GNRC Hospital conducted the Saturday evening OPD clinic at Guwahati Press Club on 19 August for the benefit of GPC member-journalists along with their dependents. Senior cardiologist Dr Sanjib Kumar Sangma checked the status of over 35 participants and offered free consultations to them. They also got their blood pressure checked by nurse Rila Arhima P Kharmujai in the camp. Nearly 20% of the participants were diagnosed with high blood pressure and they were advised by the doctor accordingly. Mrinal Hazarika, public relation officer of GNRC group of hospitals supervised the clinic.

Arrested on false complaint: Paul

A special court in Guwahati sent Rakesh Paul to 14 days police custody hours after Bhangagarh police station rearrested the former APSC chairman who procured bail three days back.  Police rearrested Paul acting on a complaint that he received ₹50,000 advance from a candidate to ensure selection of the candidate. Paul and one of his associates would be grilled in this connection.  Talking to reporters at the court premises after production he said that he was rearrested on a false complaint and that there was evidence of taking bribe from the candidate. The Narangi based Luitpaar Club has organized a friendly women football match on Saturday (19 August 2017) in the city.
