Renowned Filmmaker Bhaskarjyoti Das Passes Away

Renowned filmmaker and screenwriter Bhaskarjyoti Das passed away on Thursday after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 51 years old at the time of his demise.

Bhaskarjyoti Das was celebrated for his exceptional work in films like Handuk, Sonar Boron Pakhi, and Bakul Phulor Dore, among others. His screenwriting earned him accolades at both state and national levels. He also served as the co-producer and assistant director for the acclaimed film Antardhan.

His documentary An Unknown Summer was screened at this year’s Kerala International Documentary and Short Film Festival and gained global recognition. The film was also nominated in the Short Documentary category for the prestigious One World Media Awards 2024.

Bhaskarjyoti Das co-directed the film Where Is My Home and was known for his acclaimed documentary I Don’t Want to Be Born Again for Poem. He served as a jury member at the 2nd Guwahati International Film Festival and the 2nd NEFVTA Awards.

Even in his final days, Das was working on the post-production of a new film. His last rites will be performed in his hometown of Tangla.

Filmmaker Jaicheng Jai Dohutia, who worked closely with him on Handuk, remarked, “Bhaskarjyoti Das dedicated his life to cinema. His thoughts, ideas, and creativity began and ended with cinema. His sudden demise is an irreplaceable loss to the world of filmmaking.”

The premature death of Bhaskarjyoti Das has left a void in Assam’s film fraternity. His contributions and inspiring legacy will continue to shine through his body of work.

Immigrant figures in NRC draft!

GUWAHATI: A suspected illegal Bangladeshi settler sprung no less surprise in the Gauhati High Court as he claimed to have found his name in the NRC draft forcing the court to ask for response from the government and NRC authorities. He is none other than Ali Ahmed from Lahorighat in Nagaon, whom the foreigners’ tribunal identified as illegal infiltrator on November 22, 2011. Later, the Gauhati High Court upheld the tribunal’s order.   But of late, Ali has moved the high court with an appeal to quash its earlier order claiming that he has found his name in the NRC draft. Thane police to get Haflong constable in remand

GUWAHATI: The Maharashtra police is preparing to bring Bhubneswar after their cunterparts in Assam arrested the police constable in Haflong in connection with the infamous call data record scam.   Das, whom the police arrested a couple of days back acting on the allegations by the police in Thane would be brought to Maharashtra for interrogation. According to police, a police team in Thane probing the CDR racket traced the mobile number owned by Das who managed to procure the CDR from the cyber cell where he was attahed to.
