Noted litterateur Rong Bong Terang has been elected the new president of Asom Sahitya Sabha on Sunday. The announcement to this effect was made by the state’s largest literary body came up at the Bhgawati Prasad Baruah Bhawan in Guwahati after the counting of votes sent by the district bodies ended. Kanak Chandra Sarma will be vice president while Dr Paramananda Rajbanshi has been elected as the secretary of the literary body. Terang is a litterateur whose epoch Rong Milir Hanhi sent him into the acme of glory. Contemporary social life in the state is very much there in his literary works . Jak Heruwa Pakhi is all about the ethnic frenzy between Karbis and the Kukis. The Assam agitation is what dominates his Krantikalor Oshru….During that time, he was attracted by the prose works of Hem Barooah’s Hagor Dekhisa not to speak of Banikanta Kakoti’s Sahitya Aaru Prem. Besides, he wrote a lot for Karbi language and literature. Mention may be made of Karbi Lamkuru, Karbi Kala Aaditag. Besides, some of his notable works in Assamese literature are Rong Milir Hanhi, Karbi Sahitya-Sanskritit Abhumuki, Nila Orchid, Smritir Papori and what not. It was Terang who for the first time used the word Karbi Anglong in his lyric.

Rongbong Terang is a great writer and a well-known personality of Diphu, Karbi Anglong in Assam. His work is really appreciable and unique. Assam Sahitya Sabha will go a long way under his presidentship. We wish him all the good luck and prayers for future.

Asam Sahity Sabha since its inception selecting the person as its President who hiself is an institution. This time Rongbong Terang has been selected to Chair the glorious organisation of the people of Assam. Hope, he will be able to lead the present complex situation for better cause of Assam and the North East with selfless design.

Atleast 12 persons including two CRPF jawans sustained injury when suspected ULFA rebels exploded a powerful bomb at the Tezpur Civil Hospital Chariali at around 7 in the evening. Some of the injured persons have been identified as Ratan Mahanti, Birendra Kumar, Krishna Gupta, Ajit Pandit and Raju Gupta. According to information, the incident took place inside the hospital at around 7 in the evening. The CRPF jawans have been seriously injured in the incident. Others haver been shifted to the hospital for the treatment. Police have yet to ascertain who are behind the explosion. Details are awaited.
A day after the killing of young journalist Anil Majumder lost his life at the hands of gunmen at Rajgarh Road in Guwahati, police remain clueless but have arrested three persons including the driver. Interrogation is on.On the other hand, ULFA's 709 battalion leader Hira Sarania has condemned the killing of the journalist who has been advocating talks between ILFA and the government for restoration of permanent peace in the state. Pro-talk ULFA leader Rabin Gogoi and his security guard Luit Baishya died when some unidentified gunmen attacked both of them at Sadiya in upper Assam's Tinsukia distirct on Tuesday night.According to information, the incident took place at around 8 in the evening when Gogoi was attending at a fair. His body guard died on the spot. A severely injured Rabin Gogoi was shifted to the hospital but he died on the way.Gogoi was brokering peace between the pro-talk group and the government. In a gruesome incident that sends shockwave across the state's media fraternity, some unidentified miscreants gunned down veteran journalist and Executive Editor of Aji, Anil Mazumdar in front of his residence at Rajgarh area in the city of Guwahati on Tuesday night.According to information, it was at around 10-15 on Tuesday night when some armed miscreants shot dead Mazumdar from a point blank range as he was halting in front of the gate from his car after he had arrived in the place. In yet another pre poll incidents of violence, pro talk ULFA cadre Rabin Gogoi was injured with his body guard at Sadiya in Tinsukia district on Tuesday evening. Six youths were left injured when some unidentified miscreants started indiscriminate firing at them as they were engaged in a OIL survey on Tuesday at Bhismaknaga in Sadiya bordering Arunachal Pradesh.The injured youths have been identified as Jitu Burahgohain, Hirumani Bailung, Rupeswar Burahgohain, Dipak Gogoi, Jagot Burahgohain, Dimple Burahgohain and Zintu and they were shifted to hospital.They were engaged in the OIL survey in the area under contractor Naren Sonowal.An uneasy situation is prevailing in the entire area after the incident. Amid the pre poll heat and dust, suspected ULFA militants lobbed a powerful hand grenade at a tea company truck in Udalguri district on Tuesday.According to information, the truck owned by a Tata Tea estate escaped any casualty after it was targetted by the rebels. The Election Commission will look into the allegations of receiving poll funds from tea lobby in Kolkata. Several candidates have collected nomination papers from Monday from the returning officers for the first phase of polls in Karbi Anglong, NC hills and Cachar districts slated for April 16.According to information, there was no filing of nominations on the first day but five candidates had collected their forms from the returning officers on Monday.
