Raha residents, students hold massive rally in support of Jan Lokpal Bill

In continuing support for Anna Hazare in his fight for a strong Lokpal Bill , people from various walks of life , including students from different schools and colleges of Raha, under the banner of the All Assam Students’ Union, ( AASU ) Raha unit today took out a massive rally in support of fasting Anna Hazare against corruption in public life.


Though organized hurridly without applying any canvassing methodology , thousands thronged at Raha PWD Inspection Bunglow premise to raise their voice against corruption. The Senior citizens of Raha, Business community, Raha H S School, Raha Girls’ School , Sankardev Sishu Vidya Niketan, Gopinath Bordoloi High School, Raha unit of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti , Raha Fishery College, Pranjal Memorial Academy carried Anna Hazare's portrait and Placards with pro Anna slogans demanding Jan Lokpal Bill rent the air along the rally route.


Talking to this newspaper Mridul Hazarika , President, Nagaon district AASU unit said "It may be a small gesture in support of Hazare. But it has the spark to ignite other minds, creating a mass movement to bring about change”.


Utpal Das and Simpy Deka , both class X students of Raha Shankardev Sishu Vidya Nikean, said, “ We understand the importance of Jan Lokpal Bill and the bad effects of corruption in the society.So we have come to join this rally with our friends willingly and we are not forced by anyone to join the rally.”


Aziz Ahmed, a third year student of Raha Fishery College said, “"The entire system is stinking and the country is becoming number one in corruption. No work gets done in offices, unless a bribe is given which is why I have come with my friends to join this rally to raise my voice against corruption.”


Another fourth year student of Fishery College , Arunima Deka said this News Paper, “This is one humble step. We need more such initiatives and Anna Hazares to end the flow of tainted money, "We must not end the fight here. People must get justice”.


“ I am here to express solidarity against corruption” opined Kum Kum Devi, an H. S first year student of Raha College said.


Though the organisers expected only hundreds of people but they witnessed a massive show of strength of people who came spontaneously to voice against corruption.


The students condemned the Prime Minister and the Centra Government for prolonging the issue instead of placing the Bill in the parliament.

Stranded persons return from Coimbatore

Raha: Went through great difficulties as there was no work, food or money during lockdown, a  group of 223 stranded persons including children , differntly able persons, returned to Nagaon in an Assam-bound special train from Coimbatore , Tamilnadu  on Sunday morning. Raha administration plastic cleanliness drive

NAGAON: As part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's  call during his Independence Day speech to clean up the environment from plastic, the local administration here along with Raha Municipality Board (RMB) on Saturday launched a drive at Raha Toll Plaza along the four-lane highway to clean up the plastic garbage from the area. Notorious snatcher held , hand made pistol seized

Nagaon: The Nagaon police today apprehended a snatcher from Bhakatgaon bazar.    Identified as Bilal Uddin of Silongoni village , the apprehended person was involved in a snatching case under Sadar P S.    One hand made pistol was also recovered from the possession of the accused. Encephalitis toll mounts

Japanese Encephalitis claimed as many as 64 lives in different parts of the state till Tuesday. The number of affected people reached 265 on Tuesday. KMSS burns effigy of PM

Nagaon: Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) chief Akhil Gogoi on Tuesday announced a state-wide effigy burning protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the announcement of not declaring Assam flood as a ‘national issue’. As part of this state-wide protest , the district unit of Nagaon KMSS today burnt the effigy of PM Narendra Modi at Krishnaikhat on four-lane highway raising slogans against the BJP led government in centre and state. Truck driver arrested for reporting fake hijack

Nagaon: A Guwahati based truck driver and his wife have been arrested for reporting a fake truck hijacking case at the Raha police station , police said here on Sunday. Abhi - Neel murder case: Court declares two witness hostile

Nagaon: The Chief Judicial Magistrate court Nagaon declared two witness namely Numal Basumatari and Ujjal Mesh of Abhi Neel case as hostile. Both of the witness changed their earlier statement given in the court and before police' But court accepted their earlier statement and not allowed to change.
