Pang-Sau-Pass Winter Festival 2012 on January 21-23
The Pang-Sau-Pass Winter festival is a three days extravaganza of folk songs and dances, ethenic food feasts, traditional sports, expeditions, sightseeing, eco-trekking, angling, boating on the Rima river and general Burmese culture, to visit the war cemetery of World War II and the Border Trade Centre will be held from January 21 to January 23.
Nampong, the venue of the Pang-Sau-Pass Winter festival EAC Headquarter of Changlang District situated in the South-Eastern part of Arunachal Pradesh is a small hilly town in the Indo-Myanmar border and Namchik basin, it sis covered with evergreen rain forest. The Venue has been designed as a global village as it conjoins the diverse tribes of the North Eastern region of India and of Myanmer to display their customs and cultures in a broader perspective. The cultural carnival has cut across social barriers inspiring the secluded regions to celebrate the sense of distinctive individual ethnic identity which strongly bonds all these culturally religiously diverse tribes.
Along with the festival there are other things of tourist attraction. The historical Stillwell road of II World War, being the gateway of trade for North East India, driving down the serpentine Stillwell road magnifies the excitement manifold. During the Festival the visitors are allowed to see the Pang-Sau-Pass and visit the “Lake of No Return in Myanmar side.

Dr. Bhupen Hazarika’s immortal songs in bamboo books are released at Bokota Na-Nath Gaon, Sivasagar district on January 5. These 14 bamboo books are written by renowned sculptor Mohon Saikia. With these books Saikia has completed 45 bamboo books.
The book-release function was presided by Priyabor Konwer, President of Sivasagar district Tai Sahitya Sabha. President's Innovation Award Winner Uddhab Bharali, Retired Director of All India Radia, Dibrugarh, Hiren Gohain and renown musician Biren Phukon were also present at the event.
One Rehim Ali of Meckeypur killed by a speedy truck (AS-04-AC-2726) on Tuesday at around 6 pm near Nazira Charial. The truck was on its way from Nazira to Joysagar through Bor-Ali. After the accident the situation became tense and the agitated mob torched the vehicle at Na-Mati. Officials of Nazira Sub-Division reached the spot and controlled the situation.
One Luku Barua (11) son of Bubul and Akhomi Barua of Hudupara-Bharali Pukhuri village died on the spot at about 12 pm on November 24 when a road roller run over him. The boy was employed as a contract labour at a project work under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The Sectional Assistant of the PWD department, the roller driver and the field Assistant of the contractor have fled from the spot. Police have so far not registered any FIR against in this regard.
A 15-members joint peace committee between the residents of boder areas of Assam and Nagaland was formed at a public meeting held at Hingibeel Bazar on September 24. The people and representatives of the border areas of Geleky, under Nazira Sub-Division of Sivasagar district and the Tamlu Sub-Division of Lungleng district of Nagaland were present in the meeting. The MLA of Tamlu Legislative Constituency and Parliamentary Secretary of Transport and Communication, Taku Phom was present in this meeting. Simoluguri Police, in a tip-off, seized the several cartons of Tez guthka packets amounting to Rs.24,000 from one Juri Begum of Santak, Bogdai Gaon who brought the gutkhas to Santak from Jorhat on September 20. According to her confession, she sells these amount of Guthka every month from an agent, Rantu by name of Jorhat with the co-operation of Bitupon Khound of Sivasagar town every month in her place and the bordering state, Nagaland. The drivers of the super bus, run between Guwahati and Upper Assam are the main co-ordinators in this business.
