A 7-days regional workshop on assembled scrap metals by regional centre of Lalit Kala Academy, Kolkata in association with Rongpur Kala Bithika, is going on at Satyabrata Chaliha premises of Melachakar, Sivasagar town from February 14. The workshop was inaugurated by eminent artist Benu Mishra. The welcome addressed was delivered by Jatindra Prasad Lahkar, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar cum President of Rongpur Kala Bithika. Noted educationist and litterateur Imran Shah of Sivasagar was present as chief guest in the inaugural function.
Benu Mishra in his inaugural speech said that the though tribal culture of North Eastern region is richer than the other states but we are left behind than than the other region in fine arts and culture. So, the Lalit Kala Academy should initiate positive step in this direction. He also praised the Ahom kings for their initiation in promoting sculptures in various forms throughout their entire kingdom, either in different places of worship or in royal houses.
