Regional workshop on scrap metals at Sivasagar

A 7-days regional workshop on assembled scrap metals by regional centre of Lalit Kala Academy, Kolkata in association with Rongpur Kala Bithika, is going on at Satyabrata Chaliha premises of Melachakar, Sivasagar town from February 14. The workshop was inaugurated by eminent artist Benu Mishra. The welcome addressed was delivered by Jatindra Prasad Lahkar, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar cum President of Rongpur Kala Bithika. Noted educationist and litterateur Imran Shah of Sivasagar was present as chief guest in the inaugural function.


Benu Mishra in his inaugural speech said that the though tribal culture of North Eastern region is richer than the other states but we are left behind than than the other region in fine arts and culture. So, the Lalit Kala Academy should initiate positive step in this direction. He also praised the Ahom kings for their initiation in promoting sculptures in various forms throughout their entire kingdom, either in different places of worship or in royal houses.

Anti-erosion scheme from launched Dikhow

Foundation stone of anti-erosion protection scheme at Dikhow river, near Achala Pathar-Dihingia Gaon, was laid down by Rajib Luson Pegu, Water Resource Minister of Assam. The total estimate for this scheme is Rs.6.80 crore. According to the technical specification, 500 meters dyke with modern geo-tube technology and 1300 meters embankment will be constructed under this scheme.

Ali Ai Ligang the vibrant agricultural festival of Mishing tribes of Assam is celebrated in many places of Sivasagar district on Wednesday. The Sivasagar Bangke-Mishing-Dirbi-Kebang and Ali-ai-Ligang celebration committee observed the festival at Taxi Ali, near Sivasagar town. Cultural éclat of Mech-Kochari from February 22

A cultural show of All Assam Mech-Kochari National Council, of Assam will be held at public play ground of Haripora-Kochari Gaon of Sivasagar district under Hahsora Mauza from February 22. In this event the culture, traditional religious customs, food, discussion, dresses will be exhibited. An open session is being organised in this special occasion.

Bai-tho Puja at Dangori from March 8

The religious auspicious festival of Sonowal Kochari “Bai-tho puja” will be celebrated at Dangori-Borpathar of Tinsukia district March 4-7. The festival will start with manifestation of god, followed by main rituals of god, Haidang songs, Baghdew Puja, etc.

Bail petition of ONGC GM rejected

The bail petition of Purna Kanta Borah, the General Manager (Civil) of ONGC, Assam Asset, who was caught red handed by CBI in his office with cash 40,000 is rejected by CBI special court at Guwahati. He was arrested on charge of demanding bribes from contractor Ratul Kotoky and Chanchal Konwer. The case number was CBI/ACB/GHY RC/01/2012 ADDS. The next hearing is on February 22.

Historical museum inaugurated at Charaidew

A historical museum "From Yunan to Patkai" in memory of Chow Lung-Sukapha, founder of Ahom kingdom was inaugurated at Charaidew by fomer DoNer minister B.K. Handique. In Charaidew is the graveyard place of Ahom kings where their mausoleums are lying. The museum was contructed under the area development fund of Bijoy Krishna Handique, former Doner minister and member from Jorhat parliamentary constituency. In this inaugural function, along with Handique, Dr. Hemprava Saikia, Debobrata Saikia, MLA Nazira, Sarat Saikia, MLA, Mahmora and many distinguished persons were present.

Historical drama Bagh Hazarika staged at Nazira

Ramdhenu Drama Troup of Hahsora staged the historical drama, “Bagh Hazarika” at Nazira Natya Mandir on February 11. The drama which is written by Jitu Jyoti Gayan, a young dramatist of 30 years of age, directed by Anup Borpatra Gohain, Jeto Bon Boruah and Jhahnobi Saikia. Before staging the drama, a felicitation program, in which noted dramatist, director Rofikul Hussain and Pradip Kumar Das, Civil SDO, Nazira, present as special guest and inaugurator. The special show was organised by Nazira Natya Samiti, Nazira Traders Association, All Tai Ahom Students Union, All Tea Tribe Students Association, Assam Jatiyota Badi Yuba Chatra Parishad.

Bus service to Myanmar soon

To develop trade and economic ties with the neighbouring Myanmar, the Indian government will start bus services from Imphal to Mandalaya, Myanmar. A high level team of union surface transport ministry, lead by Joint secretary, will arrive at Imphal on February 21 for this puspose. Already discussions are going on between the Indo-Myanmar border trade Union and Republic Myanmar Border trade chamber and commerce for this service. First the service will run from Imphal and then from Guwahati. The Visa will be first issued from Imphal and then Guwahati.
