Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Gogoi thrashes govt on beef policy

2 held for attacking women

The Biswanath police have arrested two people on Saturday a day after the duo alleged to have attacked two neighbours for opposing to slaughter cattle nearby. Identified as Ahmed Ali, the local resident of a remote village and his associate were arrested by police acting on a complaint lodged by Bhadheswari Goswami and Bharati Malik whom he attacked with sharp weapons when they asked him not to slaughter cattle at his home. Tea garden officer kidnapped

Security forces are fanning in and around Gossaigaon sun division in Kojrajhar in search of NC Joshi a day after suspected   Santhal rebels kidnapped the senior officer of a tea garden in Guwahati. Police, however, recovered the abandoned vehicle belonging to Joshi in Chirang a couple of hours the rebels kidnapped him at gunpoint. According to information, Joshi along with three others was on a visit to a tea garden in search of labourers. He took three labourers on the way. But the trio forced Joshi to halt at an unmanned place. Then three people who accompanied Joshi were tied at a tree and took away him at gunpoint and there is hardly any breakthrough into the incident.

Assam boys held in Pathankot

The security forces on Wednesday arrested three youths in Pathankot area of Punjab when they were suspiciously moving in the area a day after the recovery of a bag contain some incriminating materials. According to information, police picked up them as the trio were found to have been roaming in the district bordering Pakistan. A senior team of Punjab police has been interrogating them. The interrogators are tight lipped on the development. A massive security is in place following the recovery of an abandoned bag containing army uniform forcing the authorities to step up operation.  

Assam talents crack UPSC exam

At least thirteen talents have fetched huge pride for Assam when they cracked the civil service examination, 2016 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission which announced the results on Wednesday. Swapnil Khare ranks 43 while Dibakar Nath has been ranked in 254th position. Kapinjal Kumar Sarma bags 507 position while Seuj Kumar Saikia gets 677th position followed by Dipankar Gogoi who is ranked in 816th. Tapan Deka has been ranked in 859 along with Dipjoy Das in the same position. Watery grave for 2 as boat capsizes

Two women met watery grave in Lakhimpur when the boat ferrying a few people capsized on the middle of a river on Wednesday. The incident took place on the river Bogolijan which started swelling from Tuesday after NEEPCO released a huge volume of waters from its Ranganadi dam. As the boat reached the middle of the river, the boat  suddenly capsized under the impact of the strong current forcing many local residents to come to the rescue of the passengers. SDRF jawans and local residents tried their best to rescue them. But they failed to save Pallavi Saikia and Munmi Saikia who met watery grave sending shock in the entire area.

Meghalaya food poisoning kills 9

A pall of gloom grips Meghalaya when nine people  died during the last 24 hours since they ate rice packed with pork and chicken served at a church function in Ri Bhoi district on Sunday. More than 250 others have been receiving treatment in the various hospitals in Ri Bhoi and Shillong. Around 2000 people from ten villages in the district thronged the church premises of Nongya village on Sunday where they were served rick packed with chicken and pork in the afternoon.
