Maria School Shines in the Global Front

Maria’s Public School, Guwahati, Assam sent a delegation of six students and two teacher advisors to UNIS-UN, 2013. They set off on 3rd March to attend the Global Conference at UNIS-UN, New York and returns on 18th March. An initiative, taken by Mrs. Nellie Ahmed Tanweer, the Managing Trustee, to send students to UNIS, UN so that they interact and become global students. It has become an annual feature in the diary of the Marians since its first team visited in the year 2007.

An endeavour close to the heart of Mrs. Nellie Ahmed Tanweer, this year the six students who had gone were Antareep Hazarika, Surya Prakash Medhi, Srijani Roy Chaudhury, Phameinao Shaiza and Filzah Belal, and the teacher advisors are Mrs. Arnavi Chakraborty and Mrs. Nandita Barua. The students had worked on a film entitled “Awakening” which was screened ‘second’ at the conference. They had also written a poem entitled “The Change”, which had also been selected on this global platform. Phameninao Shaiza had recited the poem in front of the international delegates and participants at the United Nations general assembly hall. The students had also prepared on a debate keeping “Youth quake” in mind, as that is the theme for this year’s conference. They had won accolades and honours at the conference, winning at the Poem and Short Film Competitions.

Not only students, Mrs. Tanweer has never deterred from encouraging the faculty to excel.

This year Mrs. Alpana K. Phukan is going to London to attend the Graduation Ceremony to be held at the University London on May 16th. She has received a diploma of Educational Studies for a course in Action Research from the college of Teachers, Bedford, London, and this was sponsored by the British Council as a reward for having received the Global Teacher Accreditation from the Council in collaboration with the Cambridge Education foundation.

Abhishek Mehendi a Commerce teacher at the Maria’s Public School left for Central Institute of Technology (CIT) Australia on 23rd of February to attend the Vocational Training programme organized by the CBSE Board. The aim of this programme is to initiate Skill Development in India.

With such outbound programmes Maria’s soar high with quality faculty and global students.

Patharkandi: An uneasy situation is prevailing in Pathorkandhi when a trader allegedly raped a minor girl on Friday. Identified as  Munna Kanu, the 51 old businessman was arrested under mounting pressure by the local residents. For almost 3 weeks now, Salesian College Sonada and its Siliguri Campus have been using on-line facility for teaching-learning as well as research. An on-line Longitudinal Study on the Attitudinal Changes to the Covid -19 lockdown both for students and faculty is into its 3rd week. GUWAHATI: A huge hailstorm accompanied by thunder and lightening on Thursday night heavily disrupted normal lives in many parts of the state on Friday. The storm started lashing the capital city of Guwhati  at around 9-30 in the evening where roads were submerged with rainwaters.
