JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Russian touist dead in Arunachal

A Russian tourist met watery grave in Arunachal Pradesh leaving no less shock and sensation in the entire north eastern region on Thursday. According to information, the incident took place in the morning when the tourist was on rafting on the river Kamala in the Lower Subansiri district. KPLT declares unilateral cease fire

The banned armed outfit Karbi People's Liberation Tigers (KPLT) declared unilateral cease fire for six months. The militant outfit, remained active in Karbi Anglong district of central Assam, has already sent a letter to the Union government in this regard. It may be mentioned that the KPLT rebels are engaged in various disruptive activities like extortion, kidnapping and even killing in the hilly district for some years. The outfit also lost many of its leader and cadres in numerous counter-insurgency operations carried out by the security forces.

BPF backs NDA in Citizenship Bill

NDA has received a marginal shot on its arm in the move to amend The Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016 when the Bodo Peoples’ Front has come in full support of the Bill that triggers statewide protest. Narrow escape for Manipur CM

Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh had a narrow escaped when miscreants opened fire at him during his foiled visit to Ukhrul district on Monday. The incident took place at the Ukhrul helipad inthe morning. Unidentified misceants who were believed to have been hiding on the spot started targetting Singh as he came out of the helicopter.
