JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

The death of a female elephant left the animal lovers no less shock in Guwahati on Sunday.The incident took place in the army cantonment area in Narengi where the animal was believed to have died in electrocution. The carcass was spotted at Narangi Cantonment 222 Advance Base Ordnance Depot Area.Forest officials arrived in the spot and buried the animal after on-the-spot post mortem.   
Finally, the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is born. Led by Pradyut Bora, over 100 members held the foundation ceremony at ITA Machkhowa in Guwahati on Sunday afternoon.The party formally adopted its constitution and elected , Pradyut Bora as president in the 2 hour simple ceremony. In his address, Bora explained the aims and objectives of the new party and its background.The speakers stressed a new healthy political culture in Assam which confines not only to an electoral politics. Manoj Bosumatary, Durlov Baruah, Devajit Bhuyan, Arindam Majumdar will be the secretaries of the party while Snigdha Sangma  and Dr Diganta Buragohain are spokesmen of the party.

The Central Bureau of Investigation grilled Anjan Dutta again on Friday in connection with Saradha scam.
