JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

All is not well in Assam BJP only a year before the assembly polls. Party leaders are quite unhappy with Dr Subramaniam Swamy’s controversial comments just a year before the assembly polls.“What we can do? FIR against BJP leader

The Assam police have registered an FIR against Dr Subramaniam Swamy alleging his intention to create communal tension in the state by making controversial statements.     Police officials told Assam Times that the FIR has been lodged at the Latasil police station under sections sections 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 298 (Uttering, words, etc., with deliberate intent to wound the religious feelings of any person), 153(A) (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language) of IPC.The FIR was registered acting on a complaint by Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti, students wing of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS).

Ban on Swamy’s entry

Assam is well prepared to ban the entry of Dr Subramanian Swamy who is making one after another controversy.Chief minister told the reporters in Guwahati on Sunday that if the BJP leader keeps saying these, he would have no option but to ban his entry.Taking a dig at the state BJP leadership, Gogoi wondered why they have been making stoic silence even after Swamy made so much controversial comment.The BJP leader stoked a controversy when he remarked that mosques and churches are mere buildings and can be demolished.

Swine flu toll goes up to 4

The killer wine flu has claimed two more lives in the state creating panic among the people these days.The reports of fresh deaths came from Jorhat district where two other people have been undergoing treatment.    According to the government, 10 persons have been undergoing treatment. He said four persons have been detected with swine flu in Jorhat and Dibrugarh each, three in Guwahati and one in Tezpur. The infected people include two Army personnel from Dibrugarh and Tezpur.

Health policy on the cards

Assam is all set to get a health policy soon. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi disclosed it on Saturday. Bodoland BJP announces poll candidates
