JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

NEU FC play draw against Goa FC

North East United FC and Goa FC fought to defeat each other. But the thrilling affair at the third ISL match in Guwahati ended in a 1-1 draw at the packed Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium on Sunday evening. 25 people wanted in Burdwan case

At least 25 people associated with a number of organizations are wanted in Assam in connection with the Burdwan blast. These people or their organizations are believed to have been touch with the jehadi elements.The search has been intensified after the Bengal Police have shared confessional statements of the sx people arrested in Barpeta district recently.But the suspects are missing.  Some of these suspects are believed to have fled to Bangladesh forcing high alert along the Indo-Bangladesh border. 

Career awareness programme

Navodaya Jatiya Vidyalaya, a Guwahati based school had organised a career awareness programme on Saturday for its students along with parents and teachers. This was organised to provide more information on various career opportunities available for the students. Ranjan K Baruah of North East Youth Foundation was the resource person in the career programme. AASU alleges Dispur failure on al Qaeda

The All Assam Students' Union demands Centre’s measures to stop al Qaeda elements from spreading in the state alleging Dispur’s failure to deal with the impending threats.Led by its adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya, an AASU delegation on Saturday called on Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju and submitted a memorandum alleging that the al Qaeda elements posing threat to the country are mostly, the Bangladeshi immigrants.

Mizo girl dead in Delhi; partner held

Rijiju opposes mega dams

Amid the undying controversy and stiff oppostion against the NHPC-owned mega dam at Gerukamukh, Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju said that he supported small dams in the north east to generate power.Addressing a conclave on PHDCI conclave in Guwahati on Friday, Rijiju said that he was in favour of dams of maximum 500mw capacity.Rijiju disclosed that NHPC had lost Rs 7000 crore only because of the stalemate over the controversial mega dam at Gerukamukh.
