JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Huge gathering in Gogamukh

BJP leaders and workers in large number have gathered in Biswanath Chariali on Monday to attend the Narendra Modi’s poll rally to campaign for Tezpur candidate Ram Prasad Sarma.After landing at the Mohanbari airport by a special aircraft, the BJP prime ministerial candidate will straightly leave for the Kamala Kanta Playground at 10-30 in the morning to hold the rally.BJP state unit president Sarbananda Sonowal along with all senior leaders have already arrived in the rally. Jail for Akhil Gogoi again

A lower court in Titabor has remanded Akhil Gogoi to 14 days judicial custody after the KMSS president was arrested on Sunday.When produced before judicial magistrate in Titabor, Gogoi was sent to the Jorhat Central Jail in the afternoon.The court further asked police to produce the case diary and the documents of medical treatment to the KMSS leader.Gogoi was rushed to the court by an ambulance after being air dashed to Jorhat.The KMSS leader is likely to move a bail petition before the court on Monday. The development came two days after the Gauhati High Court granted bail to Gogoi in all cases.  

Major setback for AGP

After months of will-they-won’t-they, Sootea AGP in rank and file quit the party on Sunday.The formal announcement was made at a meeting in Sootea presided over by MLA Padma Hazarika. The suspended legislator, however, did not formally resigned because of some legal implications.  The party workers told Assam Times that they were disappointed with the party leadership and that they had hardly any option to buy time.Notably, the party leadership on Saturday invited Hazarika and his supporters to formally withdraw his suspension. Akhil Gogoi has dropped yet another bombshell against Tarun Gogoi when the KMSS was airlifted to Titabor on Sunday.Talking to reporters before leaving Guwahati, the KMSS leader said that the chief minister has a conspiracy to kill him.He alleged that he has been tortured in the judicial custody and that a conspiracy is on to kill him with slow poisoning.

Akhil Gogoi shifted to Titabor

Amid massive security, police shifted Akhil Gogoi to Titabor on Sunday a day after the court allowed transit remand of the KMSS president.At 11 in the morning, Gogoi was taken to Sarusajai to be airlifted to Titabor where police would grill him in connection with two cases pending against him.Gogoi was to be released on Saturday when on Friday he procured bail from Gauhati High Court in cases.Hundreds of KMSS workers staged dharna in front of the Guwahati Central Jail where he was lodged. But security forces did not allow them to meet Gogoi even when he was taken out of the Guwahati Central jail.
