JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Apprehending law and order breakdown after the sensational rape and murder of a tribal girl in Boldia gaon, the Chirang district administration has clamped curfew on Saturday.The curfew in the entire area was imposed from 6-30 in the evening when some of the local residents tried to call it the beginning of the riot-rerun.A section of the local residents told Assam Times that a circle of the youths belonging to a particular community have been trying to foment trouble in the area.

Titabor police on Saturday got remand of Akhil Gogoi to be shifted from Guwahati in connection with three cases pending against the KMSS president. The court of Kamrup Chief Judicial magistrate allowed Titabor police to shift Gogoi from the Guwahati Central Jail after the transit remand was sought on Saturday.But hundreds of KMSS activists are staged dharna in front of the jail to prevent police from shifting their leader to Jorhat.

Sensation prevails in Chirang after a tribal girl was rapped and killed by miscreants on Friday. The incident took place at Boldi gaon near Amguri along the Indo-Bhutan border.According to information, the incident took place in the afternoon when a gang of seven miscreants picked up the girl who was fishing at the Makra river along with three others.Then she was dragged into the nearby jungle.
