The National Highway 31 was blocked on Wednesday for three hours at Kendukona under Kamrup district by about two thousand people of the area under the banner of "Mathauri Punar Nirman aru Ban Sahajya Dabi Samittee, Puthimari". The protest event was started at 9 am and finished at 12 pm. The programme was supported by AGP, BJP, CPI(M), ARMCA, PLP, AUDF, AJYCP, AASU, SFI and various local oraganisations. They demanded Immediate repair of the embankment of the Puthimari river, rehabilitation of flood victims, sufficient supply of flood relief, compensation to all the victims, repair of road and bridges affected by the flood and permanent solution of flood problem of the Puthimari river.
Ananta Deka, MLA,Rangia, Subharam Das, President, Kamrup district AASU committee, Dhiraj Rajbangshi, President, Rangia Sub-Divisional AASU, Hareswar Barman,Ramesh Bhatta, Nausad Ali, Umesh Kalita, Ajit Ch. Kalita and many others spoke in the protect meeting. Officers of Civil Administration and Police department immediately rushed to the area. A memorandum was submitted by the people of the area to the Chief Minister through the ADC, Kamrup. It is to be noted that about 200 villages of Rangia Sub-division were affected by the flood of the Puthimari river in the last month.
The proverb, “Third time lucky” is completely proved in a dangerous road accident today near the Simoluguri police station, of Sivasagar district. The bike rider's life is saved fortunately. The accident is occuered at about 2 p.m, on Tuesday - a Honda CR100 motor cycle (AS-04-E-4440) entered near the back wheels of the Sivasagar-Sonari bound 709 mini bus (AS-04-B-3438). the bike is badly damaged. Police have taken this lucky man to hospital but his name is unknown till sending this news.
An agent of Fair Price Shop of Sonapani village under Panery PS of Udalguri district had to face the fierce of irate villagers when the PDS priority scheme rice meant to distributed to villagers was sold in open market.
Reportedly Gokul Deka the agent of the fair priceshop sold 50 kg PDS rice to one Jabla Boro whereas he was entitled for 35 kg rice. The villagers on suspicion interrogated Jabla and learned that the agent had sold an additional 15 kg rice at higher price. The irate villagers handed over the rice and the bearer Jabla Boro to Panery PS. On behalf of the villagers Dharma Das also lodged an F.I.R against the accused agent Gokul Deka.
The Panery Police has registered an F.I.R vide case no. 66/16 against the agent accusing him of selling PDS rice meant in open market . Talking to This correspondent Panery PS OC Sohrab Ali said"We have registered the F.I.R and are investigating the matter."
Meanwhile the accused agent Gokul Deka has been issued notice to appear before the Panery Police within a time period of seven days. The local villagers also accused the agent of selling fair priceshop goods in black markets for long there by amassing unaccounted wealth. The villagers demanded cancellation of fair priceshop licence of the accused. Now what step does Police and Bhergaon Food Civil Supply and Consumer Affair department adopts will be something to watch out for.
