Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) activists in different parts of Assam blocked rails on Friday opposing the Centre’s move to auction 12 marginal oilfields disrupting normal train services.With banners and festoons hundreds of protesters blocked the rails in Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Margherita, Digboi, Jorhat and Golaghat raising slogans asking the Centre not to proceed with the deal.The protesters further asked the Centre to roll back the move within 24 hours.

Landslide again wreaks havoc in Assam where two persons lost their lives in the outskirt of Guwahati on Thursday. There seems to be no let-up in the overall flood scene in Assam on Wednesday with incessant rains in many parts of the state along with the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. The mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been flowing abode the danger level suggesting a grim scene during the next couple of days. Rajen Gohain has been given railway ministry hours after the Nagaon MP took oath as minister of state on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated the portfolio to the senior BJP leader fetching a ray of hope for the north eastern region. Many parties and organizations in the North East have welcomed Gohain saying that he would try his best to enhance railway connectivity in the entire region. Gohain is the second MP from Nagaon district of Assam to have taken oath as Union minister.
