Vote for Proneeta

The All Bodo Artistes’ Association (ABAA) appealed to the people to vote for the top 7 contestant in the DID season 5, dancing competition in Zee TV Proneeta Swargiary to bring another laurel for the state after Nahid Afrin. ABAA president Bikash Basumatary said it was a proud moment for the people of the state that another daughter of Assam Proneeta Swargiyary, one of the most challenging contestants, has reached to top 7 in the DID season 5.

“Proneeta was hailing from Baksa district but currently in New Delhi as her father is a police officer in the national capital. Her achievement has a great inspiration to the young talents of the region and voting for Proneeta would be a contribution towards the blooming of potentialities of North East,” he said.

Dularai Boro Harimu Afat of Jogeswar Brahma also appealed to the people to vote for Proneeta for another laurel for the state.

CPM blames Dispur, BJP for BTAD riot

The CPI(M) blamed it all on Dispur for failing to prevent the ethnic clashes in BTAD areas and Dhubri. The party further accused BJP of trying to give the clashes a communal colour. Talking to reporters on Sunday, CPM leader Uddhab Barman said that the state government failed to act on time when the first incidents of attack took place on July 19 and 20. He refuted allegations made by Advani and others that Bangladeshi immigrants are behind the violence.

Husband beheads wife, surrenders

Yet another gruesome murder of a woman in Guwahati has sent no less shockwaves across the state where the perpetrator happens to be her husband who surrendered before police on Saturday.

The incident took place at Natun Bazar in Basistha on Friday night when a person beheaded his wife at home alleging incestuous affair with a local trader. The doer, an employee with a private medicine company beheaded his wife Bobbeta Kamakar in full view of two children with a sharp knife.

Police officials rished to the spot but by then, her husband managed to flee from the spot. Investigation is in progress. Various parties and organizations have condemned the murder and demanded immediate arrest of Bobbeta’s husband.

On Saturday afternoon, Varun Karmakar surrendered before the Basistha police.

The incident took hardly 12 hours after a person desperately tried to kill his wife in Guwahati. Then the husband surrendered before Dispur police. The woman is still battling for life at the Guwahati Medical Colllege Hospital.

Krisok Sobha in Nazira

The Nazira unit of All India Krishok Sobha observed its foundation day with a day long programme  at Natiya Mandir on Tuesday.

The organization took out a long procession in the town to mark the occasion to be marked by a public meeting the at Nazira Natiya Mandir where Left veterans Durpod Borgohain Kanok Gogoi were also present along with other dignatories.

The meeting demanded immediate withdrawal of the move to amend the Land Acquisition Bill 2013 along with measures to prevent erosion in Assam, pension for agricultural labours, solve the unemployed problem and stop privatization move.
