Idol immersion to complete by noon

The Durga puja din and bustle have died down when the idols of the goddess were immersed on Friday. The immersion started from Thursday afternoon across the state. But all committees will complete the immersion process only on Friday. 

In Guwahati also, at least 100 puja committees immersed the idols in three places on the river Brahmaputra which took place till midnight. Others in the premier north eastern city are preparing to immerse the idols by 12 noon at the initiatives of the district administration. 

People thronged in thousands at Kachari Ghat, Pandu Ghat and Noonmati to see the immersion from early in the morning.

Settlement of villagers in the Kaziranga National Park triggers an intensified war of words between Mrinal Kumar Saikia and Akhil Gogoi. The BJP leader and businessman Saikia has moved the Gauhati High Court seeking its intervention to evict the settlers to save the world heritage site. But the KMSS leader is dead opposed to the idea saying the settlers would help the national park free from the illegal settlers. The KMSS leader who held a huge rally in Kaziranga on Wednesday said that they won’t allow anybody to evict the indigenous lot. Gogoi held the rally after Saikia moved the Gauhati High Court for its intervention to evict the settlers in the world heritage site.   
The Assam government has notified Central Jails of Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tezpur as detention centre to keep declared foreigners temporarily till such separate Detention Centre are established for the purpose. Only male inmates may be accommodated in Central Jail, Dibrugarh whereas both male and female inmates may be accommodated in Central Jails of Jorhat and Tezpur.
After a brief silence, terror starts spreading its diabolic tentacles in Tinsukia district when suspected ULFA men targeted a police station on Wednesday.  The sensational incident took place at 8 in the evening when five youths in army uniform appeared in front of the Kakopothar police station and started indiscriminate firing at the policemen. Initially, they lobbed a rocket launcher which refused to strike. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has arrived in Guwahati a dayafter he was taken ill in Tinsukia. Gogoi, who cancelled three public meeting in the upper Assam district on Wednesdayis being attended bya special team of doctors from the Assam Medical College Hospital. “He is stable and fit. But we have been monitoring his health. Actually, he needs a brief rest,” said the doctors who have been attending the chief minister since he complained uneasiness as he was addressing a public function in Tinsukia on Tuesday.  
Kokrajhar police and forest department have jointly evicted 140 illegal huts and house from the Mahamaya reserve forest on Wednesday.Talking to reporters in Kokrjahar, SP Shyamal Prasad Saikia said that many miscreants from Dhubri have been illegally settling inside the Mahamaya reserve forest.  Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is stable and he is fit to attend two public meetings in Tinsukia on Wednesday. CMO officials told Assam Times that the doctors attending on Gogoi said that his complaint was not so serious.
