Nagaland BJP targets news portal

KOHIMA: Nagaland BJP has stepped up action against TheNewsJoint.com, after lesser known news portal broke out a story alleging Ram Madhav's stay at hotel in Dimapur with two girls.

Issuing a statement hours after the damaging story went viral in social media state party president said the story was totally false which aimed at tarnishing the image and integrity of the BJP heavyweight who has been handling the party's affairs in the north eastern region.

The state president further threatened to initiate action against the news portal under the IT Act.

TINSUKIA: A heavy gunbattle between ULFA-I rebels and policemen keeps Tinsukia tense one again. The encounter that resulted in zero casualty took place at Bordomsa on Friday midnight where a group of rebels who are believed to have been moving in the area suddenly fired upon on a police team set up a couple of months back. NEW DELHI:There seems to be no respite for Subodh Biswas and his henchmen who clashed with student leaders in Silapithar six months back. The Supreme Court on Friday turned down his bail plea and agreed to hear the plea in February next year. Biswas, the leader of an organization advocating for thd Hindu immigrants earlier moved the bail plea in the Gauhati High Court. But it was rejected and he challenged ir before the apex court.

GUWAHATI: A local court in Guwahati on Thursday remanded two police officers to judicial custody a day after CID arrested the duo in connection with the sensational Jugdal case where local resident Harakanta Doloi along with five of his family members were hacked to death under mysterious circumstances in 2009. The CID which has been probing the case arrested the then Sonapur police station officer in charge Pranab Jyoti Deka and investigation officer Motlib Chaudhury charging the duo with trying to destroy evidence at the instance of the culprits.

GUWAHATI:The Guwahati High Court on Monday will decide on the fate of Akhil Gogoi who is languishing in Dibrugarh Central Jail since he was arrested under the National Security Act.
