1st Inter Udalguri District School Athletics Meet held

In  a bid to tap the budding potential of school students in athletics the 1st Inter-Udalguri District School Atheletics Meet-2018 was organized here at Tangla Stadium ground in Udalguri district on Saturday. The event organized by Tangla Sports Association was witnessed widespread participation of nearly 300 athletes from 25 different schools of Udalguri district. The sports competitions included Running Race,Long Jump,High Jump,Javelin,Discuss,Shotput Throw,Rally among others  were held for both Boys and Girls categories. The opening ceremony was attended by former Panery MLA,Kumud Das; Bhergaon SDO(C),Dithakananda Hazarika; District Sports Officer,Bhupen Rabha; Working President of Tangla Sports Association ,Khargeswar Boro; Internationally acclaimed Kabaddi referree,Nomal Rabha,journalist,Shajid Khan among others.From this meet, athletes will be selected for the state level athletics meet informed event secretary,Mukunda Sarma Baruah. The dignitaries also distributed the athletes with medals and certificates.

At a time when man- elephant conflict in Udalguri district has taken one of the worst turn a loner wild jumbo created havoc at Khoiragrant area of Attarekhat under Udalguri district on Friday night. Reportedly while the loner created havoc in the village at midnight. Villagers tried to chase away the jumbo when it injured three persons out of which Kumar Pokre (35) and Ranjan Das (45) are in critical state while Tohor Kishor Porrorel (40) sustained minor injuries. The wild loner also ransacked couple of dwelling house and damaged crops and betelnut trees. Wild elephants went into a rampage on Monday night in the Indo-Bhutan border area of Udalguri. Reportedly the building of Attarekhat ME school was ransacked by a loner of jumbo. The kitchen room and office has completely demolished as a result. The school which was provincialized in 2013 has suffered atleast six attacks of wild jumbo.
