athletics the 1st Inter-
Udalguri District School Atheletics Meet-2018 was organized here at
Tangla Stadium ground in
Udalguri district on Saturday. The event organized by
Tangla Sports Association was witnessed widespread participation of nearly 300 athletes from 25 different schools of
Udalguri district. The
sports competitions included Running Race,Long Jump,High Jump,Javelin,Discuss,Shotput Throw,
Rally among others were held for both Boys and Girls categories. The opening ceremony was attended by former Panery MLA,Kumud

Acting on a tip-off a team of forest officials of Dhansiri Forest Division and 37 Bn SSB seized a saw machine and cache of valuable timber logs at Jhargaon near Khoirabari of Udalguri district on Saturday. Panic struck Saturday in Tangla when a lone wild jumbo trampled to death a lady. Identified as Gulsanjit Kaur (39), the wife of an Indian Army jawan was killed by the elephant in the wee hours sending shockwaves in the area. Forest officials later drove away the elephant with the help of two domestic elephants.

Railway Police nabbed a drug trafficker who was in possession of nearly 2 kg of cannabis at Tangla railway station on Tuesday. The person was identified as Amar Ali alias Amaruddin Ahmed (30) of Udiana village, Rangia. Ami was on board the Dekargaon-Rangia down passenger train. "We took him into custody from the train after we spotted a bag in mysterious circumstances. When we interrogated him, two kg ganja was found in his basket. He told us that he was taking the contraband to Rangia," said a official. According to officials, he is believed to have sourced the contraband from Udalguri. The cause of men-elephant on the Indo Bhutan area is enchroachment of forest land. This was observed by Rihan Daimary State Minister PHE, Food and Civil Supply at Panery Durga Mandir premises on Wednesday.
