JK Borgohain passes away

Veteran journalist, prolific writer and socio economic and political analyst Jatindra Kumar Borgohain passed away on Wednesday following a brief illness.

Borgohain died two died at the Hayat Hospital at around 2-50 in the afternoon two days after he was rushed to it following a serious ailment. Despite best “possible” treatment, he failed to recuperate. He was 72.

Borgohain, who hailed from Jakhalabandha area in Nagaon district started his career of service as an assistant professor of economics in JB College. In 1992, he came to Guwahati and joined as editor wioth a vernacular daily. Since then, he served several media houses. He further joined as  editor in chief with a city based news channel.  A pall of gloom descended as soon as the news of his demise spread like wild fire.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi along with many other political and non political leadersand organizations expressed deep shock at his demise.

Ultra injured in Sonitpur encounter

A dreaded NDFB(s) militant sustained serious injury at an encounter with security forces in Sonitpur district on Wednesday hours after two groups of militants were caught in a crossfire in Udalguri district.The encounter took place at Laigangpara in Batachipur area along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in the wee hours  where the dreaded militant Sujalang Basumatary was injured. Gogoi undergoes medical tests

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi has undergone medical tests at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital on Wednesday. The tests include echocardiography and chest X-ray.Cardiologist Dr Anjan Bhattacharjee later told reporters that an echocardiography was planned for sometime which was done. According to him, the chief minister’s heart was working very well. NDFB-S man killed in shoot out

A hardcore NDFB(S) militant was killed at an encounter with rival faction in Udalguri district on Wednesday. The encounter took place at Rowta where an ultra died on the spot. Identified as Nirjon Basumatary alias Ganda alias B Nangtha, the NDFB(S) man was killed when two groups of the militant outfits clashed with each other. Three civilians were also injured in the crossfire. They have been undergoing treatment at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital. More people are believed to have fallen ill in Jagiroad after chlorine gas leaked from Hindustan Paper Corporation paper mill in Morigaon district.Ten more people have taken ill with complaint of vomiting, cough and respiratory problem on Tuesday wee hours to be admitted in the hospital. Gogoi hints at new faces

Face faces are likely to figure in the Tarun Gogoi cabinet which is set to be reshuffled later this month.  This was more or less of what chief minister said in Jorhat.Talking to reporters in Titabor on Monday, Gogoi said is fully prepared to reshuffle his cabinet with new faces and that he would take up the matter with the party high command later this month. Lunar eclipse tomorrow

Preparations are afoot to see the total lunar eclipse along with other parts of the country. This is the second and the last lunar eclipse of the year 2014. Experts say that only the last stage of the eclipse will be visible from the country as during most of the eclipse the Moon will be below the horizon. It is expected to begin at 1.43 PM when the Moon enters the penumbral shadow of the Earth. The totality of the event begins at 3.54 PM to end at 7.05 PM. The start of totality of the eclipse will be at 3.54 pm and the eclipse will be at the maximum at 4.24 pm. Scientists in Guwahati are waiting to gather at the planetarium on Wednesday to witness the total luna eclipse.

4 NDFB-S men held in Udalguri

Security forces claimed to have held 5 militants during a joint operation IN Udalguri district during that last 12 hours.
