Amid Bhugali bihu festivity at least eight persons were killed and 10 others have been injured in three different road mishaps on Tuesday wee hours.
In a shocking mishap, four policemen were killed when the Scorpio vehicle carrying them collided head with a truck in Laluk in the wee hours. Three others have been battling for life in GMCH.
The second mishap took place in Bogionadi where a Tata Mobile vehicle carrying 13 people turned turtle on the road early in the morning where 2 died on the spot while eight others injured have been rushed to the hospital.
In yet another accident 2 people were killed as an Indigo vehicle rammed into a bike in Hajo early in the morning. The bike duo died on the spot.

Zeliang facing floor test

A special assembly session in Nagaland is set to confirm the strength of TR Zeliang who took oath as chief minister at the end of a high voltage political drama in the north eastern state. The special session is taking place in Kohima at 9.39 in the morning where the new chief minister is sure of support from 48 legislators in the house of 60. The Naga Peoples’ Front, which expelled Zeliang has already issued a single lune whip not to support the former leader who poached a section of legislators to resume as the chief minister a couple of months later.  Governor PB Acharya will administer oath to the new cabinet ministers on Friday evening after clearing the floor test.

Presidential poll: Counting on

The new elected President of India would be formally announced on Thursday as the counting of votes is going on. According to the returning officer, the ballots of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are counting and then ballots from the states would be taken for counting. According to the Election Commission, the results would be available at 5 in the evening before a formal announcement. NDA have favoured Bihar Governor Ram Nath Kovind while UPA, Left, Trinamool Congress, AAP have voted for former Lok Sabha Speaker and Congress leader Meira Kumar.

Presidential polling ends

The nationwide presidential polls ended on Monday afternoon in Assam where the legislators voted to elect the successor of Pranab Mukherjee who demits very soon. The voting began at 8 in the morning where chief minister Sarbanabda Sonowal casted his vote  along with other legislators which ended at 4 in the afternoon. Beware Lakhimpur, more woes in store

More misery is in store for Lakimpur. The people in this flood-hit district are bracing up for yet another chapter of woes thanks to North Eastern Electric Power Corporation. The hydel power generating unit is preparing to release more excess waters from it's Ranganadi dam a week after the exercise claimed at least six people triggering no less anger and protest. Shoot out: 1 killed in Guwahati

A simmering internal feud triggered a shoot out at a religious function in Guwahati where one person died on Sunday. The sensational shoot out took place in the bread day light at a Shikh temple in Beltola where a person sprayed several rounds of bullets on a fellow from a point blank range. Identified as Lakhbinder Singh suddenly took up his pistol inside the temple and targetted Harbinder Singh in full view of all those who attended the function inside the temple and vanished from the spot. All Rabha Students Union (ARSU), Chayagaon Anchalik Committee has organised a day long career awareness programme for the locality of Chaygaon at Pantan High School on 14th July. This programme has been a part of the ongoing special summer coaching programme organised by ARSU at the same venue. Nagaland press reacts to suspicious media initiative

The Nagaland Press Association (NPA) expressed worries over the formation of a State chapter of Newspapers Association of India (NAI) and submission of a memorandum to the State Governor PB Acharya recently at Raj Bhawan without engaging the local journalists of Nagaland based newspapers. “The memorandum to Governor Acharya was forwarded by one Monojit Singha, introduced as the convener of NAI’s northeast zonal committee. He was accompanied by Thungchamo Humtsoe claiming to be the Nagaland State coordinator of the NAI,” said a statement issued by the NPA.
