Udalguri district administration ready to polls

Udalguri district administration of Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) is all set to conduct the scheduled first phase of Assam assembly election for three constituencies slated to be held on April 4.

A total of 26 candidates are in fray to contesting the assembly election in three LACs that all kinds of preparation and arrangements have so far completed to conduct the election.

Nine candidates are in fray to contest in 64-Panery LAC-Kamali Basumatary(BPF),Durga Das Boro(INC),Swarnalat Chaliha(SUCI),Nandaram Boro(UPP),Dinanath Das(Independent),Prabhat Das Panika(Independent),Dikan Chandra Deka (Independent) and Mahesh Chandra Sarma(Independent).

 In 69-Udalguri LAC,six candidates are in fray,included Jamansingh Brahma(INC),Rihan Daimary(BPF),Anjali Prabha Daimary((Independent),Dilip Kumar Boro(UPP),Bipul Narzary((Independent) nad Santash Madahi((Independent).

 Eleven candidates are in fray to contest in 70-Mazbat LAC-Charan Boro(BPF),Teharu Gour(AIUDF),Raphael Kujur(INC),Baldev Chouhan(LJP),Abul Quasim((Independent),Girish Chandra(Independent),Manaj Kumar Tamuli(Independent),Rabindra Basumatary(UPP),Lal Soren(Independent),Sunil Sarkar(Independent) and Swapna Dey(Independent).

A grand bike rally was organised by UPP party at Tangla area in support of UPP candidate for Panery LAC Nandaram Boro on the last day of campaigning,besides candidates of parties and Independent candidates also hold their last campaigns in the respective LACs on the last day of campaigning.

Cattle smugglers held in Kokrajhar

Police in Kokrajhar have apprehended four cattle smugglers from two different places in Kokrajhar disrict on Thursday and seized several cattles. Police apprehended two cattle smugglers from Tulsibil under Gossaigaon police station and seized eight numbers of cattle from their houses.They were identified as Saheb Ali and Nayeb Ali of Rupsi village under Tulsibil police outpost. Pangolin rescued in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: A Pangolin (Banrow) was rescued at Bhotgaon this afternoon in Kokrajhar today. People from the greater Bhotgaon area thronged in large number to see the Pangolin, a rare species found in Chakrashila wildlife in Kokrajhar. The Pangolin was noticed by local people inside a hole of a residential area at Bhotgaon under Kokrajhar Police Station and immediately informed to the Forest department. KLO cadre held

Kokrajhar: A cadre of Kamatapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) was  apprehended by security forces at Serfanguri in Kokrajhar disrict last night. A joint team of Assam Police and Indian army carried out a search operation against the militant outfit organisation at the Serfanguri area in Kokrajhar disrict late evening and able to apprehend a KLO cadre along with arms. Teacher's indefinite class boycott enters seventh day in Kokrajhar

Kokrajhar: Indefinite protests continues in Kokrajhar Music & Fine Arts College which entered its seventh day. The boycott strike carried out by teaching staff demanding provincialisation of the college and appointment of permanent principal. Kokrajhar: Security forces apprehended two youths who were allegedly involved in arms dealing from Basugaon area in Chirang district on Sunday morning. Based on an inputs about movement of youths,security forces belonging to Assam police and 15 Garhwal Riffles of Indian Army, have carried out a search operation along the Basugaon area in Chirang police apprehended the  two youths who were moving towards Basugaon town. Rajendra Narzary passes away

Kokrajhar: Former BTC member of council legislative assembly (MCLA)  Rajendra Narzary passes away on Sunday around 2.30 pm at a private hospital in Guwahati. He was in his 50s. He leaves behind wife Ajanta Narzary, a school teacher, two sons. His body is being brought to his native place in Gossaigaon. He last rites will be performed tomorrow. Narzary also served as president of Gossaigaon unit All Bodo Students Union(Absu). He was also associated with several organization in the area.

Fire gutts Dadgiri Bazar in Chirang

Kokrajhar:  A massive fire has gutted  at Dadgiri Bazar along the Indo-Bhutan border in Chiang district. The fire broke out  due to cylinder explosion at a hotel that engulfed to the nearby shops. 11 shops were destroyed in the fire. The incident took place by 3.30 am in the early morning on Saturday. The gutted shops includ rice shops ,crocery and few saloons. Nearly 7 lakhs worth of properties reportedly destroyed in the fire.

Kokrajhar: Four persons, including a cadre of the National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB-S) were arrested by security forces from different two places in Kokrajhar and Chirang district on Wednesday. According to Police,based on a tiptop information about movement of NDFB cadres, a joint operation was launched by Gossaigaon police alongwith Army and CRPF Cobra Battalion in Auxiguri village under Kachugaon police station in Kokrajhar disrict in the early morning and managed to arrest a cadre with arms.The cadre was identified as Rohiton Narzary (33) of Oxiguri village under Soraibil police outpost.
