Tangla Rongali Bwisagw Afad kicked off the celebration of Bwisagw festival at the Lok Priya Gopinath Bordoloi Bhawan premise in Tangla on Saturday with two-days programme. The colorful programme was organized by Udalguri ABSU.
The history of celebration of Bwisgw festival by the Bodos can be traced back to times when the first mentioned king of Pragjyotishpur (ancient name of Assam) was Mairong Raja (Sanskritised as Mahiranga) of Asura Dynasty. As per anonymous sources Bodos have been celebrating the festival for more than 4000 years back.
The first day of the celebration began with the hoisting the Bwisagw flag by Nripen Boro, vice-president of the celebration committee The Bwisagw field was inaugurated by Rihon Brahma, social worker of Tangla . The celebration committee felicitated elderly and renowned persons of Tangla including two journalists Ujjal Kr. Das and Shajid Khan during the celebration.
As many as six cultural troops also presented Bagrumba group dance on the occasion which enthralled the audience. A cultural night programme is scheduled to be held in the evening. The second day of the festival will be marked by homage to Upendra Nath Brahma . The open session will be inagurated by Ananda Daimari of Udalguri district ABSU. The session will be chaired by Kamesar Boro President of the celebration committee. Dr. Nareswar Boro Assistant Professor Udalguri College and ABSU leader Romeo P. Narzari will grace the event as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
