Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Nagaon incident triggers anger, protest

4 held in Nagaon incident

The Nagaon police have arrested four traders charging them with assaulting the former rebels who were believed to have been raising fund to feed the flood hit people.  According to information, the police have arrested the owner of the shop Raju Das along with his associates Manu Das, N Das, Utpal Das who assaulted the former rebels.  But two persons who were behind the incident have yet to be identified.

Traders thrash former rebels in Nagaon

A group of traders in Nagaon assaulted a few surrendered ULFA rebels alleging extortion in the name of fund meant for the flood hit people triggering statewide reaction on Wednesday.  The incident took place at around 11 in the morning on Tuesday in the central Assam town where the traders refused to pay anything to the surrendered rebels. Tea garden lock out triggers protest

One month has passed since the management has locked out the Borgaon Tea Estate in Biswanath district allowing 70 workers and their family members to languish in dying agony.  Despite repeated appeal, the management is allegedly not in a mood to withdraw the lock out. 3 dead as vehicle collides head on truck

Three persons died when the vehicle in which they were travelling collided its head on a moving truck in Gohpur on Saturday. The incident took place when the trio who were travelling by their four wheeler and ad they reached the Chariduwar College the vehicle colluded its head on a speedy truck. The trio dead on the spot. The deceased were identified Nipan Dutta, Nipa Saikia and Bhairab Krishna Nath.

Marginal let-up in flood

The overall flood scene improves following thr halt of rains during that last 70 hours. The water level of thr Brahmaputra and its tributaries have shown a receding trend and if it continues the situation would improve further during the next few days. Flood scene improves: Toll mounts to 40

 There seems to be marginal let up in the flood scene during the last 24 hours following the halt of rains that lashed the catchment areas. The water levels of the Brahmaputra and its tributaries have shown receding trend during the last 12 hours much to a major respite for millions of people who have been rendered homeless. Fresh arrest warrant against Rakesh Paul

A special court in Guwahati has issued arrest warrant against Rakesh Paul two days after the former APSC chairman procured bail from the Supreme Court. Acting on a fresh complaint filed by a youth in Bhangagarh police station, alleging that Paul demanded bribe from him for job the court issued warrant against Paul and to produce him before it accordingly. Meanwhile, KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi alleged on Thursday that the BJP led government in Dispur indirectly helped Paul procure bail.
