Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Flood waters refuse to recede in Assam in view of the incessant rains that lashed the state during the last couple of days rendering almost two lakh people. The Brahmaputra and its tributaries are still flowing above the danger level where the surging waters have submerged more and more areas in Lakhimpur, Jorhar, Sivasagar, Dhemaji, Goalpara, Kamrup, Sonitpur district forcing the people to take shelter in the highland areas. A rising water level of the mighty river Bramhaputra wreaked no ness havoc in Barpeta in the form of flood where Bhogerpar and its adjoining areas have come under the surging waters. These areas with a considerable population have been remaining under water for the last 5 days. The situation is taking a grim turn as the water level refuses to recede. Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chhatra Parishad (AJYCP) activists in different parts of Assam blocked rails on Friday opposing the Centre’s move to auction 12 marginal oilfields disrupting normal train services.With banners and festoons hundreds of protesters blocked the rails in Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Margherita, Digboi, Jorhat and Golaghat raising slogans asking the Centre not to proceed with the deal.The protesters further asked the Centre to roll back the move within 24 hours.
