Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Landslide again wreaks havoc in Assam where two persons lost their lives in the outskirt of Guwahati on Thursday. The incident took place early in the morning in 11th Mile area near Sonapur in the wee hours sending shockwaves in the entire area. The shocking incident struck when a guard wall collapsed on the house where Bishal Sharma and his daughter Nanu succumbed to their injuries. A record rainfall in Guwahati wrecked no less havoc in the premier north eastern city heavily disrupting Eid celebration by the Muslim people on Thursday. There seems to be no let-up in the overall flood scene in Assam on Wednesday with incessant rains in many parts of the state along with the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. The mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been flowing abode the danger level suggesting a grim scene during the next couple of days. The current flood waters have inundated the Kaziranga National Park forcing many birds and animals to move to the nearby Karbi hills area. The Pobitora sanctuary is still reeling water flood waters. Rajen Gohain has been given railway ministry hours after the Nagaon MP took oath as minister of state on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated the portfolio to the senior BJP leader fetching a ray of hope for the north eastern region. Many parties and organizations in the North East have welcomed Gohain saying that he would try his best to enhance railway connectivity in the entire region. Gohain is the second MP from Nagaon district of Assam to have taken oath as Union minister. The overall flood scene in Assam refuses to improve on Tuesday with incessant rains that lashed the state for the last couple of days. Part of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon has come under the surging waters forcing many birds and animals to shift their places. More than 1.5 lakh people have been reeling under the current flood wave in Morigaon, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts where relief and rescue operations are in progress.
