Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

2 dead in Sonapur landslide

Landslide again wreaks havoc in Assam where two persons lost their lives in the outskirt of Guwahati on Thursday. The incident took place early in the morning in 11th Mile area near Sonapur in the wee hours sending shockwaves in the entire area. The shocking incident struck when a guard wall collapsed on the house where Bishal Sharma and his daughter Nanu succumbed to their injuries. His wife Radha Sharma and another daughter Puja sustained injury in the incident.

Heavy downpour havoc in Guwahati

A record rainfall in Guwahati wrecked no less havoc in the premier north eastern city heavily disrupting Eid celebration by the Muslim people on Thursday. The two and a half hour long heavy downpour that lashed the city in the wee hour resulted in a massive waterlogging in many places where a portion of the busy Guwahati-Shillong Road in Bhangagarh, Christianbasti, was inundated till noon. No let-up in flood fury

There seems to be no let-up in the overall flood scene in Assam on Wednesday with incessant rains in many parts of the state along with the catchment areas in Arunachal Pradesh. The mighty Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been flowing abode the danger level suggesting a grim scene during the next couple of days. The current flood waters have inundated the Kaziranga National Park forcing many birds and animals to move to the nearby Karbi hills area. The Pobitora sanctuary is still reeling water flood waters. Gohain gets railway

Rajen Gohain has been given railway ministry hours after the Nagaon MP took oath as minister of state on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi allocated the portfolio to the senior BJP leader fetching a ray of hope for the north eastern region. Many parties and organizations in the North East have welcomed Gohain saying that he would try his best to enhance railway connectivity in the entire region. Gohain is the second MP from Nagaon district of Assam to have taken oath as Union minister. Eye check-up camp concludes at press club

Most of the media persons based in the city are facing different eye problems like redness, dryness and regular watering, which came to light in a daylong check-up camp held at Guwahati Press Club on Tuesday (5 July 2016). Organized by the ASG Eye Care the free eye check-up camp was attended by over 70 media persons along with their close relatives. Stop oilfield auction: AJYCP

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad continues its protest for the second consecutive day on Tuesday against the move to auction 12 oilfields in Assam. Pobitora under surging waters

The overall flood scene in Assam refuses to improve on Tuesday with incessant rains that lashed the state for the last couple of days. Part of the Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary in Morigaon has come under the surging waters forcing many birds and animals to shift their places. More than 1.5 lakh people have been reeling under the current flood wave in Morigaon, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur and Dhemaji districts where relief and rescue operations are in progress. The situation threatens to take more grim turn if the rains refuse to relent.
